Penalty shootout simulator
Settle the debate: simulate a penalty shootout between any two teams. Set how good each side is from the spot, flip a coin for who goes first, and share the result.
How the shootout works
Each team takes five penalties, taking turns. If one side can no longer catch up, the shootout ends early. If it is level after five each, it goes to sudden death: one kick each per round until one team scores and the other misses. This simulator follows those rules, using the scoring chance you set for each team (professional penalties are scored around three times out of four).
Frequently asked questions
What scoring chance should I use?
For a fair game between equal teams leave both at 75%. Lower it for amateur players or nervous goalkeepers' opponents, and raise it for a team of confident takers.
Does going first matter?
In real shootouts the team that kicks first wins slightly more often. Use the coin toss to decide fairly.
Can I use it for a real five-a-side match?
Yes. Many leagues settle drawn knockout matches with penalties, so use it to practise, to pick an order, or just for fun.
